Perspectivas ecoescatológicas no adventismo

O artigo analisa as perspectivas ecoescatológicas no Adventismo, com foco nos documentos oficiais da Igreja Adventista do Sétimo Dia (IASD), a partir da década de 1990. A ecoescatologia, que integra ecologia e escatologia, é examinada como uma abordagem que vincula a responsabilidade ambiental à esperança escatológica. A IASD, embora reconheça a importância do cuidado com a criação, prioriza uma postura teórica e revisionista, distanciando-se do ativismo ecológico. Os documentos oficiais da Igreja destacam a mordomia da criação e a crítica ao consumismo, mas sem avanços significativos em engajamento ambiental. Conclui-se que, apesar de aproximações conceituais, a ecoescatologia adventista ainda está num nível inicial de desenvolvimento, mantendo-se alinhada à sua ênfase escatológica tradicional.
Abstract: The article examines eco-eschatological perspectives within Adventism, focusing on the official documents of the Seventh-day Adventist Church (SDA) since the 1990s. Eco-eschatology, which integrates ecology and eschatology, is analyzed as an approach that links environmental responsibility to eschatological hope. Although the SDA acknowledges the importance of caring for creation, it prioritizes a theoretical and revisionist stance, distancing itself from ecological activism. The church’s official documents emphasize stewardship of creation and critique consumerism, but without significant progress in environmental engagement. It is concluded that, despite conceptual affinities, Adventist eco-eschatology remains at an initial stage of development, remaining aligned with its traditional eschatological emphasis.
